Yeah I know, but how easy is it driving to your lodge at thredbo, unloading at the front door of the lodge, and parking the car! vs ski tube$ / oversnow(timing) / walking through the snow (cause O/snow cant drive to the lodge because the resort put the garbage bins in the turning circle) to get your gear to the lodge smile

We will be back though (Cause CP is special), just have to wait till the big resorts stop offering the early bird deals.

Hey no probs, it wasn't her best performance, they race on front valley, very flat, and the kids with finesse and technique (and weight) did better. She did well on the steeper courses!

Gave Kevin some more money for next year

Look at BC Reports for snow depth on the road near Charlotte's, going to be a big one for bc people this weekend

It would be more sad but am tracking my new Jeep Laredo diesel across the pacific at the moment, delivery middle of Nov

Cannot wait to see how it goes towing the ensuite caravan I bought earlier on this year

I still need some one to buy me out so I can retire as I keep spending money

Have a good summer guys and here's hoping for another good one next year

What next thing you know the untracked powder will be gone in an hour instead of being around for a couple of days if you keep up that sort of advertising, anyway u have to line up behind Sago and myself for those bowls

its just a small resort really nothing to see here

Charlotte's seems to fly under the radar for a lot of skiers, with perhaps only rumors of a tiny, insular hamlet somewhere up beyond Perisher going through my mind as I bought another lift pass for one of the big two.

The one friend I knew who grew up skiing there in his childhood would go misty-eyed, with descriptions of fresh snow through the trees at some run called Guthries.

The other friend who had skied there frowned slightly and said "Well...it's...small"

On Saturday 15th, with a stunningly perfect spring day on the cards, I decided to spend $30 on a Thredbo backcountry pass instead of the skitube, and ski over via the Snowy River valley. It took me about an hour and a quarter of skinning and skating from Eagle's Nest to sitting in front of the Chalet, with a break for morning tea.

I picked up my day pass from my friends, who had come on the over snow from P and, proudly decked out in sunglasses, T shirt, and Thredbo cap, went on to tour the whole resort in good soft spring snow.

The terrain is a perfect little setup, a bowl high in the mountains with mind blowing views of the Main Range. Highlights were Avalanche, Equaliser, Charlotte's Web, and of course Guthrie's. This so-called 'lift' was clearly designed by a mad scientist and nearly castrated me the first time I tried to ride it. Hilarious fun.

The lunch provided was a great BBQ, outdoors with live music and beer from a snow bar. Fantastic.

Afterwards we met up with our friend who worked at the resort, and hiked up to Guthrie's chutes for a bit of a challenge, before skiing the rest of the afternoon throwing big turns through the slush in the setting sun.

A great day out in a wonderful spot. There was plenty of good skiing, even for a jaded Thredbo season pass holding twenty-something. Definitely would like to go back for a day or two next year! Especially on a powder day...

Kevin is doing season passes again for next year now, at $549 + $50 unlimited oversnow

I've already bought mine

I just hate the crowds at the major resorts, some snowboarder tried to clean me up the other day but they came off second best although could just as easy been a skier

Hi Sago

Looks like you might get to ski the bowls again before she closes, unfortunately I cannot get down again to CP but will try for one more weekend at Perisher

At last a great season. Nice to have a drink with Mr and Mrs Sago the other night. Have to say that CPV are doing a fantastic job with very positive results. From what I hear, there are lots of good things in the pipeline.
Best wishes to all and hope next season is as good.

Cheers,

Another great day of powder.
TBB beat you to the bowl and chutes.Wind blown in areas but still great.
Lifts busy this morning with chair closed but still waits weren't that bad.
The week ahead looks good for a great finish to the season.Pity there is another 4 weeks of snow on the hill!!!,

Sunday was another stunning day at the Pass. So much snow - never seen it this good. Skied runs I've only ever dreamed of tracking. The whole valley leading in is covered in snow. The kiddie weeks that now round out the season are going to be the best in years. There are going to be some serious snow bunnies coming out of the next two weeks. Gonna cost the parents a large fortune in future years chasing those thrills.

No snowboard equip so old 1 snowboard instructor. I feel ripped off when I go to NSW snow fields but this was extra harsh. The food was outstanding but it out classed the chalet. Stick to Perisher or Thredbo.TV was not working; we just wanted the news. Half the mountain was not open, not much snow making goes on.

Hey Sago

Met the photographer a couple of weeks ago when I was down there, she seemed interested in who you were

shhhhh speak no evil, hear no evil, take every chute you can, give nothing back

Down again on sunday in Perisher, will make it up a couple of times during the week

Looking forward to giving Kevin some money for next year

I was looking to do the last weekend, however have discovered that the lifts are shutting on the 16th sept

Just leave the lift keys under the front door mat, thanks

I'am sure that marketing and special deals for extending the season by a week could prove to be beneficial in giving CPV more exposure to clientèle who might consider next year coming to CP

Two years ago CPV shut at the end of their season with more snow on the ground than is normally there peak season

mod note:

Ian has let us know that the Charlotte Pass resort page will soon be showing the most recent few posts from this thread.
To that end from now on posts here should be less "banter" and more weather style "stay on topic" approach. That is that posts should be a report, photo etc.

It will only affect the 2012 conditions/report thread, not the whole sub forum, so feel free to start a banter thread.

Sorry no photos but visibility poor, however trees were excellent and to make things even better I managed to miss them all, although one nearly got me

It was a good thing I was going slow laugh

at least 20 to 30 cm in the guthries side of t bar off the road, you couldn't see but that didn't matter as it was all smooth and untracked

Pulpit cornice whooo hooo

And there was

Probably 60 cm at back of lodge, snow now climbing the timber on the base poma hut

8.30 first tracks but visibility will only be in the trees, I promise to go slow evilgrin

Hot chocolate morning, cannot complain because the skiing has been great. Started a couple of days ago with blue skies and a mountain of groomed runs. Yesterday was cloudy, but the morning allowed for some powder skiing down hard packed runs. The snow has been great, but the grooming is fantastic. Great to see so many runs. Now we just need to wait for the sun to come back out.
