Buller opens Bonza chair

buller: Bonza day to ride Australia's newest ski lift.

Mt Buller celebrated the first day of skiers and boarders riding the new Bonza Chairlift today with perfect sunny skies and pristine snow conditions.

The Bonza chairlift is the only new chairlift to be built anywhere in Australia or New Zealand for this snow season and Mt Buller skiers and boarders were out enjoying the new lift first thing this morning under blue skies.

"It's a Bonza day" said a beaming Laurie Blampied, General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts who joined the skiers getting early turns on Burnt Hut ski run this morning. "We've been eager to get this new lift into operation and we couldn't ask for a better day to take it for a roll. This new lift represents a major investment for the resort and is just part of the wider northside revitalisation that will improve the experience for skiers and boarders on this side of the mountain this winter."

The Bonza Chairlift spans 530m on the northern slopes of Mt Buller and serves the popular Burnt Hut beginner ski run as well as access to numerous tree-lined runs. The lift was completed in readiness for the opening of the ski season when local families with three-generations of skiers were invited to open and commission the chairlift. More than fifty families participated in the special opening celebrations and today many returned to ski the area and ride the lift in the snow for the first time.

Holidaymakers at Mt Buller are currently enjoying ideal conditions with up to 75cms of good to very good cover on runs open and 13 lifts in operation around the resort.

"The mountain is buzzing with school holidays visitors and the combination of sunshine and snow is keeping everyone smiling," said Laurie Blampied. "We have lots of families staying in resort and making the most of the recent snowfalls and plenty of day visitors seizing the opportunity to come and enjoy some special time in the mountains these school holidays."

Mt Buller is committed to continually improving and enhancing Victoria's largest lifting network and has installed additional snowmaking operations, new northside carpet lifts and revitalised the Howqua Chairlift with all new chairs this winter.
