Parks Victoria may restrict access to some parts of the Alpine National Park affected by fire activity but the good news is the alpine resort and surrounding tourist-friendly attributes (such as Wallaces Hut) are now accessible to visitors.
The very unseasonal cool weather, particularly over the Christmas holidays effectively removed the threat of fire to the alpine resort.
Vic Roads has done a fabulous job on the access road to Falls replacing guideposts damaged in the fire.
All the relevant authorities were acutely aware that the lack of open
access to the road from Mt Beauty to Falls Creek was seriously affecting the livelihood of business operators plus it was disrupting holiday-maker plans.
However, they worked as expeditiously as possible to provide safe access to the resort in time for New Year's Eve.

milch cafe/bar (and GLO Cinema) is offering a three-course dinner with
live entertainers Jo Ellis & Mark Featherstone (who played at last year's New Year's Eve gig at milch) for $about $55 a head.

The Man a popular family -friendly (and runner-friendly) pub will also be operating from 5pm with gourmet pizzas a big favourite. The bar will also be open on New Year's Eve until the wee small hours.
JB's Restaurant at Karelia Lodge will also offer New Year's Eve
festivities with a special four course dinner & sparkling wine to celebrate the onset of 2007.
Huski Produce Store/Wine Bar is also open over the holiday weekend from breakfast until early evening.
Another very popular Falls Creek establishment, Winterhaven Restaurant, will also be open. As will wombat Cafe at the foot of the Falls Creek Express Chairlift.
