Welcome to Pender Lea – Your Alpine Hideaway in the Heart of the Snowy Mountains.

Pender Lea’s ideal location puts the best of the Snowy Mountains right on your doorstep. You are only minutes away from the mountains, lakes, rivers and resorts.

In winter the mountains become a playground for snow worshippers. Pender Lea is on the Alpine Way, 5 minutes drive from the Skitube, which provides hassle free all-weather transport to Perisher Blue. Perisher Blue is the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere.

Just a few minutes further along the road is Thredbo Village, the picture perfect resort with the longest ski runs in Australia. If you need some retail therapy or a night out Jindabyne is just 10 minutes away.

When the snow thaws, alpine meadows bloom with wildflowers and trout fill the streams. In the warmer months the mountains have an amazing list of things to see and do. Bush walking, fishing, mountain biking, horse riding, golf, water skiing and white water rafting are waiting for you to come and discover. Pender Lea puts you in the heart of all the action.

If you love fishing Pender Lea has one of the most coveted fishing spots in the area. Our 4WD drive track winds down through remote wilderness to a private isolated fishing spot on the Thredbo River. Here you can fish for trout in one of the untouched pools or running rapids. A paradise for the fishing devotee. Many a great fishing tale has been born here.

Explore Pender Leas mountain wilderness on horseback. Ride to the top of Ramshed Range and take in the breathtaking views of the mountains and Lake Jindabyne. Indulge in a gourmet picnic at one of the spectacular lookouts, or beside our wilderness section on the Thredbo River.

Accommodation at Pender Lea Chalets has been designed to cater for all tastes and budgets. You can choose from a luxury Swiss style chalet nestled in the bush, a renovated historic high country hut or fully equipped park cabins.

Your Hosts

Christine and Rudi Schatzle are your hosts at Pender Lea. The Schatzles are well know local identities and are true pioneers of the ski industry. They have lived and operated businesses in the area since the early beginnings of Thredbo Village. Offering warm mountain hospitality to visitors for the past 45 years. Rudi hand cut the ski runs and chairlift lines when Thredbo was first developed. He introduced the famous flare run to Thredbo, a tradition which is still held every Saturday night throughout winter. At Pender Lea they continue to offer exceptional service to their guests whom return year after year to soak up their unique European "Gemutlichkeit"

Pender lea is a popular holiday destination among AustraliansPender Lea is just 5.5 hours drive from both Sydney and 6.5 hours from Melbourne. We are located in the heart of The Snowy Mountains. If youre cruising to the mountains from Sydney once on the Eastern Distributor there are only a few sets of traffic lights to Pender Lea. From Melbourne the fully sealed Kosciuszko Alpine Way is your scenic window, as you wind through the spectacular Kosciuszko National Park.

• Sydney: 5 – 6.5 hours 500km (approx.)
• Melbourne: 5.5 – 7 hours 500km (approx.)
• Canberra: 2.5 hours 180km (approx.)

Accommodation

Pender Lea has on offer a variety of accommodation to suit every budget and taste. Are you dreaming of a romantic getaway to the mountains? Then choose a luxury mountain chalet with an open fire or the historic Pender Lea Post Office, the quintessential high country cottage. Planning a family get together or group holiday our very spacious cottage comfortably accommodates thirteen. For the adventurer on a budget our park cabins are the best value on the Alpine Way – perfect for an impromptu fishing trip or a weekend in the snow. With so many options, you are bound to find one that suits.

Check- in Check-out

Check – in from 3.00pm.

Bags can be dropped off earlier if required – please let us know in advance.

Check-out is by 10.00am.

We would appreciate if you could ensure that your property is vacated by this time as we need to have the chalets clean and ready for incoming guests. During summer when the pace is a little slower we are happy to offer late check-outs if there are no incoming guests scheduled to arrive. On arrival ask about the possibility of a late check-out.

Linen

Blankets, doonas, feather down mattress toppers and pillows are supplied for each bed. Linen (eg sheets, towels, and pillowcases) is not included in the tariff for Summer Season or the Value Season. The tariff for the Park Cabins does not include linen year round. Pender Lea can hire your linen if required.

Pender Lea supplies the highest quality bedding on the market, for health reasons the beds must not be slept in without linen. If you forget something do not hesitate to contact reception we will be more than happy to supply whatever you may require.

Kosciuszko National Park

Pender Lea is situated on the outside boarder of the Kosciuszko National Park. The park entry station is 5 minutes toward Thredbo and entry fees apply.
